47% of the PSA/CPSU NSW membership live and work outside the Sydney Metropolitan Area. The Rank and File believe local representation is vital for regional areas.
Achievements

Ran a regional marginal seat election campaign to ensure the government values regional public service employment.

Secured a public commitment from the Premier to prevent regional job losses;

Commissioned independent economic research highlighting The Importance of Regional Public Services

Secured better bush-fire resources for the regions by securing increases in paid firefighting and mitigation roles for our Rural Fire Service and National Parks and Wildlife Services through our public advocacy

Recruited a permanent Regional Organiser to the long vacant Western Region;

Boosted 83% regional organiser roles by 83%, with increased officials in a number of regions such as Hunter, Illawarra and the North Coast

Enabled Sydney Industrial staff to increase their focus on regional members by enabling more work in the regions

Established a new office in Grafton, and embedding offices amongst large workplaces in Wagga Wagga and Lismore.

Supported more delegates from the regions to attend and be involved in all activities of the union such as DCs, Conferences and, training and the likethrough ensuring regional representation quotas

Enabled continued delivery of training to the regions during the COVID-19 restrictions by changing to digital technology

Held Central Council meetings in a regional area each year;

Supported Regional Organisers with training, resources and support to enable them to undertake more site visits.

The Rank and File commits the Union to:

Maintain political pressure on the government to secure regional public sector jobs

Maintaining and improve resourcing to the current 11our Regional Organiser positions ensuring support and an office presence in the regions

Continue to take Central Council out of Sydney, on a regular basis, to a regional centre to allow member participation and observation of its governing body

Continue to encourage Aboriginal Council and Women’s Council to hold meetings outside Sydney

Ensure continued delegate training for the regions with half of all courses offered in the regions

Ensure engagement with local elected representatives and the local media to ensure the importance of Public Service jobs in the regions both to the functioning of communities and to the economy of those communities
