Work, Health & Safety and Workers Compensation

 

The Rank and File team have made safety core PSA business again. There is no more fundamental workplace right than the right to attend work and be safe.

 

Rank and File Achievements:

  • Holding the first ever PSA Mental Health Conference

  • Getting the Government to agree that mental health should be a key focus of the Government Work Health and Safety plan

  • Reinstating a WHS Unit with WHS professionals after the “Members Coalition” removed the unit from the PSA

  • Creating an Injury Management Officer to assist workers with injuries and workers compensation

  • Working in partnership with Department of Communities and Justice to create a position of Welfare Officer to support the mental health of all workers in Justice

  • Supported the 4 corners expose on ICare poor workers compensation treatment of injured workers

  • Agitated for a review into the workers compensation practices in DCJ

  • Organised for the development of a mental health program in Community Services

  • Assisted delegates negotiate flexible work and safe workplaces during the COVID-19 shutdowns

  • Utilised WHS to ensure job cuts during restructures were minimised

  • Reintroduced Work Health and Safety training including Mental health Care and Resilience, HSR training, Workplace Bullying and WHS intro courses

  • Contributed to Parliamentary Inquiries reviewing workplace bullying in agencies

  • Contributed to three bushfire Inquiries including the Royal Commission into the bushfires highlighting safety consequences of poor systems, poor staffing and equipment.

  • Contributed to the SafeWork Guidelines on Sexual Harassment, the ACTU sexual harassment survey, and the CPSU submission to the Human Rights Commission on Sexual harassment

  • Continue our campaign to have a public sector mental health strategy in all employers

  • Continue to support our School Support staff campaign for safe workplaces free from workplace violence

  • To ensure that members safety rights are at the forefront of government restructure decisions

  • To hold a biannual Mental Health Safety Conference

  • Continue to fight to make our workplaces safer
